Dr. Tran’s research group at the Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering Department at Michigan Tech invites applications from qualified individuals for a Ph.D. position in Civil Engineering, specializing in Non-destructive Testing (NDT) for Transportation Engineering and Civil Engineering Materials.
Successful candidates will have opportunities to participate in both numerical and experimental research focused on developing new sensing technologies for Civil applications. The projects include performing numerical modeling, developing sensing apparatus and techniques, and conducting experimental validation testing in the laboratory and field.

Funding: Fully Funded PhD Position (Tuition + Stipend via RA/TA)
Research Focus:
• Developing new sensing technologies for Civil applications
• Numerical modeling

Required Qualifications:
• A master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
• Research experience in one or more areas related to sensing, concrete, nondestructive testing (NDT), and data analytics
• Experience in programming tools (MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, etc.), Signal processing
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to conduct independent research and contribute to interdisciplinary projects
• Ability to prepare high-quality manuscripts, reports, documentation, and presentations
• Good written and verbal communication, teamwork, time-management, and organizational skills
